Besides the activities shown below, we have added some new art, music, rockstacking events to the Bowie Lodge venue.

Please note: This is a private cabin and not available for rent. The name of the cabin was orginally named "Bowie Lodge" by the Bowie family way back in 1925 and we haved decided to keep the original cabin name, but it is not a real lodge that can be rented. Sorry..

Bowie Lodge Activity Options
  • Swimming: - Whether you are 2 or 82, Pinecrest Lake offers the best in clear, refreshing Sierra lake swimming. Water temperatures often reach the high 70's by July. A special designated large swimming area allows protected swimming infront of 3 beaches. Optional crosslake swimming accompanied by a rowboat is available.

  • Hiking: - Start your hike right from the Lodge for a short or long hike!

  • Sleeping under the Stars: - Summer visitors to Bowie lodge are encouraged to sleep outside on the various sleeping decks to enjoy the shooting stars and morning bird song and the mountain air. Please bring your sleeping bag to plop down on a choice of beds to get into that summer camp mode.

  • Kayaking and Canoe Tours: - Morning, afternoon or evening guided or solo kayaking or Canoe activities scheduled upon request. Please contact the canoe specialist at the event counter for more information.

  • Sail and Snorkel Tours: - Why travel all the way to Maui when you can sail on the open waters of Pinecrest Lake to Pirate or Treasure Coves and enjoy an afternoon of swimming or snorkeling and sunning. Daily excursions can be arranged by request. Open to any kid or adult up to the challenge. Eye patches and hooks available upon request.

  • Backpacking Trip: - Enjoy the annual 1 or 2 night backpacking trip to Waterhouse Lake or enjoy other real camping adventures in the Emigrant wilderness or Carson Iceberg Wilderness areas that are only a few miles away. Typically the backpack trip is done in early August. Bowie Lodge is a great way to start and finish your high Sierra backpacking adventure.

  • Campfires : - Enjoy the campfire fun eating marshmallows and samores? and singing around the campfire.

  • Bike Rides: - Bring your own bike or use one of the many Bowie Lodge Classics for scooting around Pinecrest on 3.0 M of paved bike trails, or talk to the event desk about longer and killer Road bike and Mountain Bike adventures right from Bowie Lodge. Kids bikes and bikes with child seats available.

  • A Ghost Town Adventure: - A short drive to Columbia Historic State Park allows one to stroll among a restored California Gold mining Town. Activities including panning for gold, stage rides that get held up, horse back riding, mine tours and old time root beer.

  • Learn to Sail or Windsurf: - Anybody 7 or older can learn to sail on Pinecrest Lake. Take lessons from Captain Scott, veteran sailor and instructor for both small boat sailing and windsurfing with over 30 year of sailing experience. Certified in Coastal Cruising and Bareboating for up to 30 feet.

  • Nightly Baseball Games : - Come join the whole neighborhood for nightly whiffle ball games in the street in front of Bowie Lodge. These whiffle ball games started over 40 years ago and still use a special set of bases (1 rock and 1 tree) and Pine needles for home plate. Games configured for all interested players from age 3 to 100. No special skills required.

  • Music Jam Sessions – These spontaneous sessions are open to everyone and anyone who wants to fiddle or holler. You must provide your own instrument and your own voice. Last year, Jam session participants were surprised by guest appearances by Dolly Parton and the Kingston Trio. Who knows what is in store for this year.

  • Morning Runs: - Take your morning runs to a new high with High Altitude training at over 5200 feet while running around Pinecrest Lake. This 5 mile course is a bit of up and down with options for cool lake dips if it gets too hot.

  • Movies under the Stars: - Feature run movies are shown 4 nights a week at the Pinecrest Amphitheater for a evening of movies under the stars. Price $4 for everybody. Fresh Popcorn and snacks too.

  • ELMERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR: - Join in the nightly unique Pinecrest ritual of yelling "ELMER" at dinner time. It starts and works its way across Pinecrest and comes back going cabin to cabin, campsite to campsite in a community wide participation.

  • Cross Country Skiing: - Open the cabin door and put on your skis and head out an enjoy the trails for short or long skis.

  • Sledding Activities: - Open the cabin door and either sled infront of the cabin on sleds, disks, or your bum-bum or head around the neighborhood for various sledding/sliding options.

  • Ice-skating: - An tiny, family size ice-skating rink is open during the winter in Long Barn about 10 miles away. Bring your skates or rent them there.
